Representing the 19th District of NY: Congressman Pat Ryan.
A large group of residents attended the "meet the candidates forum" sponsored by the club.
Longtime Village Trustee Brant Neuneker is challenging incumbent Gary Bassett for Mayor. Eleanor Pupko and Roger Quon are challenging trustees Ric Lewit and Lydia Slaby.
Though the incumbents were not in attendance the challengers provided opening and closing statements and responded to a steady stream of questions for about an hour.
The club was delighted to have not one but two local news sources in attendance. Please take time to read the press coverage of this event as covered by the Red Hook Daily Catch “Three Democrats Plan to Challenge the Mayor and Two Trustees in Village of Rhinebeck Primary” and the Hudson Valley Pilot “A Different Slate of Democrats in Rhinebeck: A Challenge from Within”.
The Democratic Party primary for these Village seats takes place on January 31, 2023 in Village Hall.
Meet the candidates forum for 1/31/2023 Village Democratic Party primary election.
Thank you from NYS DEMS
Rhinebeck Democrats Club note to members
Q: How many members of the Rhinebeck Democrats Club have been active in door knocking as canvassers or drivers? And how many doors canvassed?
A: About 12 club members have volunteered so far. In terms of the number of doors canvavssed by the club? I think between the August special election and the upcomng general election 2,000 doors is a reasonable estimate.
Eleanor Pupko and I will be Co-Directors of the new Rhinebeck staging area. We will be responsible for working with Zachary Brower, the Northwest Dutchess County campaign field director to assure that volunteers are assigned turfs efficiently and trained as well as keeping the campain updated.
Q: Where will the new Ryan/Hinchey staging area be located as we get closer to Election Day?
A: The Ryan/HInchey staging area for Northwest Dutchess County will be located at 6 Mulberry St. between Market St. and South St. in the Village of Rhinebeck. Canvassing sessions are scheduled for Saturday 10/29 and Sunday 10/30 as well the four day period beginning Saturday 11/5 through Election Day 11/8. Canvassers can pick up turfs at 9:00 am, Noon, 3:00pm and 5:00pm each day. Volunteers should sign up at PatRyanforcongress.com

Q: In a few words can you explain what a "staging site" is? And can you explain a "canvassing turf”.
A: Sure. A political campaign’s staging site is a place where volunteers go to receive lists of voters who they will be contacting for the candidate via door to door visits. A canvassing turf is a listing of from 35 to 55 homes in a particular area which can be contacted within two or three hours of door knocking. A canvassing turf includes a map showing the location of each voter's home. Although a turf can be printed, most volunteer canvassers use a very cool app called Minivan on their smart phones to access voters, and report voter responses.
Q: How many days have you and your wife, Tija Spitsberg, provided your home as a staging site for the Ryan/Hinchey campaigns?
A: We hosted a staging area at our home for five Sundays ending on Sunday the 23rd.
Q: Dave, can you offer some thoughts about the status of the Ryan and Hinchey campaigns?
A: From what I read in the papers, both Ryan and Hinchey are in contests that are competitive for both Democrats and Republicans. Getting out the Democratic vote is crucial to victory. That’s why I am working as energetically as I can to help get out the Democratic vote.
Q: Is there anything else you'd like to share?
A: I find volunteering on door knocking campaigns exciting, satisfying and fun. Most people who try it like it.

Volunteers arriving early for 1pm kickoff always a good sign.
More ground can be covered by pairing canvasser with driver. Teamwork!
Wow! 1pm Sunday and cars lined up outside Rhinebeck Democrats Club staging site for Ryan and Hinchey.
